One person died and two others, including a female tourist from Kolkata, were injured in a head-on collision between two scooties in the city on Monday night.
The accident occurred near Kitchen Express, Malki Point at around 10:30 pm. The scooties bear registration numbers MLO5 AA 8256 and MLO5 Y 1286.
The identity of the deceased male could not be verified till filing of this report. He was declared brought dead to Shillong Civil Hospital.
The other injured person who was pillion riding with the deceased has been identified as Bishal Mondal (20) of Demseiñiong locality.
The lady tourists, Lisa Pradhan (34) received minor injuries, while her husband Devendra Nayak (37) fortunately did not bear any injuries. They are both from Kolkata and in Shillong for sightseeing when the accident happened.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was not wearing a helmet.
