Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Comingone Ymbon, held a meeting yesterday with key officials of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and supply officials from districts and subdivisions.
The purpose of the meeting was to review and streamline the lifting of Public Distribution System (PDS) foodgrains in the state. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner and Secretary Praveen Bakshi, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and Pynursla Subdivisional Officer.
The minister also reviewed the progress of lifting of foodgrains from the FCI godowns in Mawlai and Sohryngkham so as to streamline the overall delivery mechanism in Meghalaya.
Route optimisation efforts were discussed to reduce the distance between the FCI godowns to fair price shops. The exercise was meant to achieve efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint.
Ymbon mentioned that such review meetings are necessary since the initiatives undertaken by the department would go a long way to ensure that foodgrains reach the beneficiaries in the least amount of time in order to achieve food security.
