The District Tuberculosis officer, West Jaintia Hills observed World Tuberculosis day at the District Library Auditorium yesterday on the theme, “Yes! We can end TB”.
Deputy Commissioner Batlang S Sohliya who attended the programme as the chief guest, expressed his appreciation to the doctors and their teams for their tireless effort in reducing the number of TB patients and working towards the elimination of TB in the district.
Sohliya also acknowledged the dedication and hard work of healthcare professionals for providing health care, conducting research and implementing prevention programmes to combat TB. He motivated individuals’ communities and stakeholders to work together towards achieving the goal.
A music video that conveys a message about TB awareness prevention and treatment was also launched during the programme.
Appreciation certificates and mementos were given to individuals in recognition for their contribution in the fight against tuberculosis. The awards included TB Free Village Award, SNC certificate/ Mementos, Nikshay Mitra certificate, best treatment supporter, best lab Technicians, best performing ASHA and Media Engagement.
The Office had also organised sports competitions for the LP and UP students and prizes were distributed to the winners during the event.
Earlier, a rally participated by school students carrying placards with an awareness message about prevention of TB in the society through the streets of Ladthadlaboh, Newhill, Iawmusiang, DC Office, Stand War, which culminated at District Library Mynthong, Jowai, was also held.
