A transformative workshop titled “Modern Agriculture: Embracing Organic and Integrated Farming” was organised by the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC), a constituent college of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Wahiajer campus.
The workshop held on March 27 was attended by 200 farmers. It was aimed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and empower farmers with the latest advancements in farming techniques.
NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. P.S. Shukla and Padma Shri Trinity Saioo attended the workshop as guests.
In his address, Shukla emphasized the indispensable role of agriculture in the nation’s development, emphasising the importance of embracing organic farming practices to ensure environmental sustainability. He commended DDUCC for its proactive efforts in organizing skill training programs and pledged continued support for the college’s initiatives aimed at empowering youth and farmers.
Saioo underscored the significance of harmonizing various agricultural activities to enhance productivity and resilience. She lauded the collaborative efforts between DDUCC and NEHU in facilitating training programs beneficial to the community members of Jaiñtia Hills.
Acting Principal of DDUCC, Prof. S.M. Sungoh highlighted the importance of integrating modern technology with organic and integrated farming practices.
Dr. F.R. Sumer emphasised the necessity of adopting new techniques and cultivating a mindset that respects the land’s limits.
Shainbor Dkhar and Ebiangmitre Pale provided participants with hands-on experience in integrating organic farming with modern agricultural practices. Through practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, attendees gained insights into the symbiotic relationship between traditional organic methods and cutting-edge technological advancements.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of seedlings to all participants symbolising a commitment to implement sustainable agricultural practices in their respective fields.
The workshop served as a catalyst for raising awareness about the importance of embracing organic methods within modern agriculture, contributing to the promotion of environmentally conscious and economically viable farming practices.
