The College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), observed World Population Day today on the theme, “To leave no one behind – Count everyone.”
Dean of the college, Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad chaired the programme which was attended by Dr. Marcellus Momin, Medical Officer of Tura Civil Hospital as the resource person.
Dr. Momin provided insights into the fact that China and India together contribute 36 per cent of the world’s total population, with Mumbai, Delhi, and Karnataka being among the most populous regions in India.
He highlighted the challenges of overpopulation, including the strain on natural resources and human-animal conflicts. Dr. Momin stressed the need for creating awareness about the impact of overpopulation and the factors responsible for it.
In her address, Dr. Vastrad discussed the current trends in population growth and their effects. She emphasized the advancements in technology and the importance of accurate census data.
