The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has recovered a car submerged in the flood water yesterday at Dalu Sonagre junction in West Garo Hills district.
The vehicle bearing West Bengal registration plates (WB 06 7718, Wagon R) is believed to have been occupied by a father and his son when it was swept away by flash floods on Friday.
The SDRF team had launched a search operation for the missing occupants of the vehicle and are yet to locate them.
SCR Sangma, Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, West Garo Hills district said that the search operation has been halted yesterday but will continue today.
The SDRF team has been stationed in flood-hit Dalu area following flash floods due to heavy rainfall.
According to eyewitnesses, the father, who was a teacher, was driving back to Tura from Nagrajora-Sempara side of Gasuapara with his son, when they encountered a flooded road at Sonagre village, near Bugai RCC bridge on National Highway 217.
The vehicle was swept away by strong currents.
