The BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) Department of Northeast Adventist University (NEAU) celebrated World Physiotherapy Day to highlight the significant role of physiotherapy in addressing one of the most common musculoskeletal issues worldwide.
The commemoration held on September 9 was on the theme, “Low Back Pain and Physiotherapy Management and Treatment” with a health camp and a host of programmes participated by the students.
A free physiotherapy health camp held at Jarain village, West Jaintia Hills was attended by 58 patients from the community.
The students also took part in poster competition on the theme, ‘Low Back Pain’, engaging students across all semesters of the department allowing them to creatively express their understanding of the condition, its causes, and the critical role of physiotherapy in its management. The winners of the poster competition were Pratibha Dhanwar, RideimayaSuchiang, ShimtilangRyntathiang and Ebeneser S. Liam.
Head of the Department, Dr. Junita Kyndait (PT), delivered an address and elaborated on the global issue of low back pain, discussing its prevalence and the vital role physiotherapists play in its prevention and management.
A highlight of the event was a demonstration by the students of the department who stressed on how physiotherapists intervene to prevent and manage low back pain.
The students, along with Dr. Clarity Marwein (PT), an assistant professor at NEAU, performed integrated dance movements with exercises designed to prevent and treat low back pain that also showcased how physical activity can be both therapeutic and engaging.
