More than 40 officials of the state government attended a workshop to familiarise themselves with the Meghalaya Data Portal (MDP), an open-access data platform.
The platform – meghalayadataporta.com – has been developed by the Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) with the support of the Planning Department for the use of administrators, researchers, students, journalists and the general public as part of the development of an open data ecosystem.
The state’s civil servants will be able to use the data found on the portal to make various policy decisions based on data focusing on evidence-based policies, a press release said today.
The workshop was started by Aarushi Jain, who provided a background on the ISB’s India Data Portal and the development of the MDP. Amrita Chakraborty then conducted the data and insights-backed session, taking the attendees through a detailed walkthrough of the portal with several examples from across sectors like food and agriculture, education, health, nutrition, crime, rural development, socio-economic, financial inclusion, climate vulnerability and infrastructure. This was followed by a Q&A session.
