East Jaiñtia Hills police arrested a woman drug supplier identified as Maya Gwala alias Pushki today.
The 29-year old resident of Polo, Shillong was arrested from her residence after two of her couriers were arrested from Umtyra in the wee hours today.
East Jaiñtia Hills Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said the woman had sent her couriers, Pasar Uddin alias Samir (26) and Dipak Baidya (21) to ferry the contraband from Silchar to Shillong in a tourist bus bearing registration number AS01-FC-8199.
Acting on credible information, the vehicle was detected and detained at Umtyra at around 1: 30 am. When searched a bag containing nine soap boxes of heroin weighing 100. 56 grams, was recovered from their possession, he said.
Following the arrest of the couriers, a team proceeded to Shillong to arrest Gwala. “Pushki is the mastermind and the main receiver/financer of the illegal contraband,” he said, adding, she was brought to Khliehriat and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is on.
