The re-appointment of a retired chief general manager by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Limited (MTDC) has been objected by the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) who felt this has scuttled employment opportunities of deserving youth.
Puranjan Das was the Chief General Manager of MTDC retired on March 31, 2023 but was re-appointed to the same post on contractual basis from April 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023.
HYC General Secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said Das will avail the same pay of Rs 1,57,968 with an option that his contract maybe renewed again after the six month period.
“This practice will create of situation of non-availability of employment opportunities for other deserving candidates and youths of our State,” Synrem said.
The HYC has also shot off a letter to the MTDC Managing Director seeking termination of the contract forthwith or face protest.
