People of West Khasi Hills have been able to raise Rs 73, 230 to Hubert Paliar, an arm wrestler who will represent India to the 43rd World Arm Wrestling Championship at Antalya Turkiye from October 14 to 23.
The initiative to launch crowd funding to enable Paliar to compete at the international event was taken by a group called, ‘Ka Sur U Nongwest.’
The money was handed to Paliar today during a send-off programme held at Nongstoiñ.
Paliar, a person with hearing impairment is among 10 other arm wrestlers to compete at the championship. Others include Alan S Marbaniang, Kishore Chettri, Everson Thangkhiew, Angel Merry Mylliem Umlong, Airikymenlang Lyngdoh, Margaret Pathaw, Alexander Lyngdoh, Banshan Terang. Mainbor Khyriem(Refree /Official) and Nick Nonglyer(Refree).
