The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the CrPC over a land dispute between two villages.
The order today stated that villagers of Umshangiar have not complied with a court order and have continued to cut down trees in spite of an ongoing case between them and the village of Lumlakhiat.
The disputed sites are at Lumkhohskhen, Lummynsiang and Umsaitshyieng.
The order prohibits assembly of more than five people in one place, carrying of arms, felling of trees, chopping of branches, clearing undergrowth, carrying saws or daos in the disputed site and the plying of any vehicles other than those that belong to police.
The order applies to the disputed sites and came into force with immediate effect.
