The winter capital campaign of the Achik State People’s Front (ASPF) was held at Salbari Rabukong (Pedaldoba) in West Garo Hills today.
The meeting to push for creation of a winter capital in Tura by seeking the support of the community was attended by Nokmas of over 50 villages, as well as notable leaders from various social organisations.
Kinjing Ch Sangma, the Nokma of Dandarigri Aking land in his speech urged the elected representatives of the Garo Hills region to actively pursue initiatives that would benefit the area.
The Nokma of Dengangre said that the establishment of a winter capital in Tura is a long-held aspiration of the people, which would enhance accessibility to administrative services and significantly reduce the financial costs associated with travelling to Shillong for official purposes.
Among those present were Malsin Marak, Secretary of the AYWO Achotchonggre Regional Unit, Witjess Marak of the Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF) and Withing Marak, Secretary of the All Garo Hills Merchant Association (AGHMA) Raksamgre Unit.
