Williamnagar’s Civil Hospital has that status in name alone, according to an accusatory letter by social activist Tennydard M Marak.
Marak wrote the letter yesterday apprising the Chief Secretary of the situation.
The hospital has not, according to Marak, progressed beyond its status of a community health centre (CHC) but has been projected as a hospital since 2007.
The facility’s signboard proudly declares it as Williamnagar Civil Hospital whereas official records say it is a CHC.
“Why this double standard in respect of the Williamnagar Community Health Centre as well as Williamnagar Civil Hospital?” Marak questioned.
Marak also claimed that Deborah Marak, the Congress Party’s candidate for the Williamnagar seat at the upcoming February 27 election, and Marcuise N Marak, the sitting MLA from the NPP, have not raised the issue.
