Shillong, Sep 15: The CAU Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Garo Hills, in collaboration with the North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Tezpur, organised a training programme on water conservation and water management in Williamnagar, with participation of 70 farmers.
The programme focused on practical approaches for conserving and efficiently using water in Meghalaya’s hill agro-ecosystem to boost productivity and climate resilience.
Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Dr Shah M Hussain spoke on productive utilisation of water for income generation through integrated farming and agri-allied activities.
SMS Agricultural Engineering Dr S Nirupama Chanu highlighted low-cost measures like rainwater harvesting, soil-moisture conservation and efficient irrigation.
Other sessions covered traditional water management practices, agronomic measures to increase water-use efficiency and community mobilisation, conducted by experts from NERIWALM.
