Shillong, Apr 16: The Office of the District School Education Officer (DSEO), West Garo Hills, organised the district level Science, Mathematics, and Environment exhibition at Dakopgre, Tura.
The event showcased the creativity and technical skills of students in the region, under the theme “STEM for Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
With participation from 10 schools across the district, the exhibition aimed to foster a scientific temper among young learners.
Retired DSEO SK Saha, who attended the exhibition as the chief guest highlighted the importance of science as a cornerstone of national development, urging students to cultivate curiosity and innovation beyond conventional boundaries.
Saha emphasised sustainable practices, encouraging students to develop critical problem-solving skills rooted in their understanding of environmental science.
The exhibition featured a variety of models and projects that reflected a strong understanding of scientific principles and environmental awareness. Students presented works such as “Hydroelectric Power Generation System” and “Solar-Powered Irrigation System Integrated with Rainwater Harvesting.”
Chedora N. Marak of Bidanchi Higher Secondary School, Tura, secured the first position for the project titled “Hydroelectric Power Generation System.” The second position was awarded to Balkam Chuango M. Sangma of Rootland Secondary School, Tura, for the project “Solar-Powered Irrigation System Integrated with Rainwater Harvesting.”
In the competitive segment, Gareth Ashton A. Sangma of Tura Public School secured the third position for the exhibit focusing on the use of solar and wind energy, while Marchioness P. Marak of Little Blossom Higher Secondary School, Tura, secured the fourth position for the project “Vertical Farming and Hydroponics.”
Organisers informed that the top winners will go on to represent the district at the upcoming state-level exhibition in Shillong next month, with the opportunity to advance to the national stage.
