The State government has decided to install vehicle scanning machines at the entry points in Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills to curb drug trafficking.
The installation of vehicle scanning machines at the entry points of the two districts will be done within the next six months. All vehicles entering Meghalaya will be subjected to a scanning machine.
This was informed by Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh to media persons here today after a State level meeting of the Drug Reduction Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM).
“We discussed the need to install scanning vehicles at the entry points to the State, meaning from Ri Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills districts. So, one such vehicle scanning machine will be installed within the next six months. The installation also requires trained manpower to handle equipment and to immediately detect any suspicious movement,” he said adding all vehicles will be scanned before they are allowed to proceed.
