Shillong, Jul 2: In the wake of the state government’s plans to address the issue of untangling overhead cables throughout Shillong, workers of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on Thursday undertook a cleanup initiative in the Khyndailad area.
The workers took down abandoned and non-functional cables that had cluttered the area for an extended period.
One of Shillong’s most glaring eyesores is all the cluttered, tangled and ubiquitous wiring, which includes power lines, cable TV wiring, broadband internet cables, etc. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma recently held a meeting with operators to discuss how this mess can be cleaned up.
The removal of tangled and hanging overhead cables is seen as a significant step towards enhancing urban safety and aesthetics and a broader strategy ahead of the upcoming national games, ensuring that the city presents a cleaner and safer environment for participants and visitors.
