Shillong, Oct 4: The All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) has announced that it will hold a rally on October 7 to protest the non-implementation of several of its demands by the Education Department.
The rally will begin at 10am from Pynthorumkhrah Golf Link Community Hall, proceed through Bishop Cotton Road, 4th Furlong, Polo Bazar and return to the starting point.
In a letter addressed to local media outlets, AMPSTA general secretary FC Shullai stated that the purpose of the rally is to draw public attention to issues affecting primary school teachers across the state.
The association seeks retention of sanctioned posts in government and deficit non-government schools after retirement, immediate filling of vacant posts and sanctioning of additional posts for single lower primary schools.
Other demands include the implementation of the government’s Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) scheme, exemption of primary teachers from election duties and regularisation of teachers left out prior to 2007 as well as those in non-government schools. AMPSTA also called for the withdrawal of Order EDN.79/2005/72, which it claims has negatively impacted notified schools.
