The progress of Covid vaccination in Meghalaya will be reviewed by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tomorrow during his meeting with health officials from the State.
Mandaviya will also simultaneously review the progress and planning of Covid-19 vaccination in Manipur, Nagaland and Puducherry.
Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Puducherry are states where the coverage of the first dose of Covid vaccination is less than 70 per cent.
According to official sources, the first dose coverage in Meghalaya was 56.7 per cent, Manipur 54.2 per cent, Nagaland 49 per cent and Puducherry 65.7 per cent.
Further, sources said that around 82 per cent of the eligible population in India have received the first dose of Covid vaccine while around 43 per cent have been fully inoculated. The total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 116.50 crore.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on November 5 reviewed the Covid vaccination status in the State with deputy commissioners of all the eleven districts and directed them to intensify the drive to achieve 100 per cent vaccination by Christmas.
According to Sangma, officials have been asked to try and achieve 100 per cent Covid vaccination in the State before Christmas, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent virtual review meeting with chief ministers.
Stating that the State had seen multiple deaths and inadequate facilities to handle the Covid cases, Sangma had also said that health officials should gear up to face the third Covid wave by working all out to get everyone vaccinated.
