The Dorbar Shnong of Umkiang village in East Jaiñtia Hills has urged the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to carry out immediate repair of National Highway-6 particularly along the stretch from Khliehriat to Ratacherra which is presently in a deplorable condition.
In a letter to the Project Director, NHAI Shillong Project Implementation Unit, the Dorbar Shnong Umkiang said the Khliehriat-Ratacherra stretch of NH-6 is now dotted with large potholes causing great inconvenience to the commuters and public.
“This matter has to be addressed immediately because there are many potholes which are big in size and as such is a threat to the safety of the vehicle and the commuters,” the letter said, adding that immediate repair of the potholes would prevent further damage to the road.
It also said that if the highway stretch is not repaired now it will result in deterioration of the road condition and result in great financial implication on NHAI.
The Dorbar Shnong of Umkiang also lauded the NHAI for clearing the debris caused by landslides due to incessant rainfall in the past few days resulting in huge traffic jams along Lumshnong-Ratacherra road. It also said that due to the speedy and timely intervention of NHAI, vehicular movement was resumed, much to the relief of the commuters.
