South Tura UDP candidate John Leslee K Sangma has filed a complaint with the West Garo Hills Returning Officer against claims of rigged EVMs to be used in the ensuing assembly elections.
According to Sangma, in a viral video a candidate was seen making public claims that out of 3000 rigged EVMs manufactured in Delhi, five have been brought to the Garo Hills.
“The person making the speech have claimed that the machines have been rigged in such a way that whether one pressed the button to vote for NPP or TMC all the votes will go to BJP and so everyone should vote for BJP so as not to be embarrassed in future to approach the winning candidate and miss the development opportunities,” the UDP candidate said today.
Sangma in the complaint said the claim is serious and needs immediate clarification and re-assurance from authorities as such statement jeopardise the endeavour of the Election Commission of India to conduct free and fair elections.
He urged authorities to make a public statement to clarify and take immediate action against the candidate for openly misleading and duping electorates for political gain.
