The East Jaintia Hills Truck Owners & Transporters Association and the All Jaiñtia Youth Welfare Organisation have supported the deadline given by the Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong and pressure groups to the government to repair the dilapidated National Highway 6, which runs through the district.
In a release today, the truckers’ association president, Kyrshan Dkhar, said that the highway is a lifeline not just for East Jaintia Hills but for the states that lie to Meghalaya’s east. However, the dismal condition of the highway leads to injuries, death, accidents and frequent breakdowns of vehicles. Dkhar added that NH-6 did not deserve the tag of National Highway.
The youth organisation president, Heatermoon Ryngkhlem said the national highway can no longer be compared to internal roads.
