In an unexplained incident, a West Bengal-registered truck (WB 57 B 1028) was gutted in a fire today morning on the Shillong Bypass in Ri-Bhoi.
The truck was loaded with iron rods and its cabin was ruined by the flames. Fortunately, the driver and handyman were not inside the vehicle when the blaze broke out.
The vehicle had been parked on the side of the road due to technical issues. At around 9am today, when the driver and handyman had gone to purchase vegetables, the fire began. Umiam firemen quickly doused the flames but there was much damage to the cabin.
