Shillong, May 17: Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) organised the ‘Social Work Conclave II’ on the theme ‘Community Engagement of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) for Sustainable Development: Bridging Academia, Practice, and Community Leadership’.
The programme was organised in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises experiential learning, community engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration and socially responsible higher education, a press release stated today.
The conclave was attended by academics, institutional leaders, NGO representatives, community members, faculty members and students from different institutions and organisations. The event aimed to strengthen dialogue among higher educational institutions and communities for sustainable and inclusive development in the North East.
R Murugesan, Director of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj – North Eastern Regional Centre (NIRDPR-NERC), was the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the importance of community-oriented education, local leadership and sustainable development initiatives in the North East.
One of the major highlights of the conclave was the launch of two important publications. The first book, The Northeastern Changemaker, is an edited academic volume focusing on social realities, community engagement, sustainability, human rights, entrepreneurship, education, health and development issues of the region. The second publication, From Inquiry to Impact: A Faculty Guide to Multi-Method and Mixed-Method Research, was developed as an outcome of a workshop on advanced research methodology organised by MGU from March 30 to April 11.
