Shillong, May 17: The National People’s Party Women’s Front (NPPWF) Umroi block marked a post-Mother’s Day celebration at Umroi Umdohbyrthih, themed ‘Mothers, the Silent Pillars of Society’.
The programme felicitated mothers for raising children who brought honour to the locality, while also honouring girls who excelled in academics, sports and arts.
Among those recognised were Daiakmen Talang, who ranked in the Top 20 of the MBOSE SSLC examination; Ekyrpangmeki Sohiong, Best Boxer at the Meghalaya Boxing Championship 2026; Betshwadaphi Kharsohnoh, a CBSE topper in 2026; arm wrestler Mihsngewbha Rymbai; and young singer Ekyrpang Wahlang, whose song “Ah! Trai Ng Awan Phai” releases on May 22.
Chief guest and Nongskhen MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri said the honourees’ success brought pride not only to their villages but to women across the state. She urged women to stay courageous and determined, especially in “strengthening and nurturing their families and homes.”
