Nongpoh, May 27: In a heartfelt gesture of support, Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, ahead of his transfer from Ri-Bhoi district, officially handed over a photocopy centre to Pering Pale, a differently-abled youth.
This initiative aims to empower Pale, allowing him to earn a livelihood and ultimately stand on his own feet. The opening of this shop marks a significant step towards fostering self-reliance for individuals facing similar challenges.
Pale, who hails from Umpohwin village, is the second of nine siblings and has faced numerous hardships due to his physical disability. Nevertheless, the establishment of the shop has sparked renewed hope for his future.
Inaugurated by Baranwal himself in the presence of other district officials, the shop located within the premises of the DC’s office in Nongpoh is already seen as a transformative opportunity for Pale.
Expressing his gratitude, Pale described the support he received as a life-changing blessing that gives him confidence to build a better life.
Baranwal said that differently-abled persons deserve equal opportunities and support to live with dignity and earn their livelihood like everyone else. He shared that he had long been thinking of ways to help Pale become self-employed, and through this initiative, the administration was able to provide both the shop and a photocopy machine.
The local community has expressed appreciation for Baranwal’s commitment to public service. Many residents and local leaders have shared their sorrow at his departure but have also acknowledged the positive impacts he has made during his tenure. His people-friendly approach, dedicated service, and persistent efforts to uplift marginalized groups have won the hearts of those in Ri-Bhoi.
