Traditional heads of Sohra and Shella area have urged the Sohra District Demand Forum (SDDF) to pursue the assurance of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for creation of Sohra District by carving out from the existing East Khasi Hills District.
In a meeting held at Sohra yesterday, the traditional heads reminded the Sangma in a meeting with leaders of the SDDF and local leaders held at Sohra Circuit House on January 5 had assured to create the new district with Sohra as headquarters.
The meeting appreciated the efforts of the SDDF in taking up the issue with the State government from 2018 till date including preparations of the paper works as required by the State government.
Meanwhile, Sohra MLA Gavin M. Mylliem, Shella MLA Balajied Synrem and Sohra MDC Titos Chyne in their speeches at the meeting assured all cooperation to the SDDF in its pursuit of the demand for Sohra District.
They also requested the Forum to enlighten other villages that have doubts and apprehension on the issue so that a general consensus was arrived on the matter.
Meanwhile, it was informed at the meeting that the SDDF has been reconstituted on June 6 with Syiem of Hima Sohra Freeman Sing Syiem as the chairman, Banlam Lyngdoh as secretary besides Atiar Syiemlieh and Alan West Kharkongor as advisers among others.
