The India Trinamool Congress has lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the Government of Assam in connection with the police firing that killed six people in Mukroh in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
TMC national spokesperson, Saket Gokhale said the use of lethal force against unarmed persons by Assam Forest Officials was unprovoked and illegal. He said five persons from Meghalaya killed in firing were unarmed and were members of Scheduled Tribe who were exercising their Constitutional Right to forest produce.
He sought an immediate independent probe as well as an order to the Assam government to withdraw all its forces, currently stationed illegally within the territory of Meghalaya.
