Shillong, Aug 26: The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has filed a complaint with East Khasi Hills SP seeking FIR against two persons from Assam for allegedly making derogatory, defamatory and threatening remarks against Khasi-Jaintia communities in a viral Facebook Live.
The complaint was filed by HYC Education Secretary Enlang Sawian against Facebook user “Moskan Uddin” of Hojai district and content creator “Mumu Mumu” from Golaghat, Merapani.
Sawian alleged the accused called Khasi-Jaintia women “prostitutes”, made degrading remarks on their character, morality and paternity of children, and claimed they are involved in illegal trade.
The accused allegedly made personal claims regarding Khasi-Jaintia women to make generalised demeaning remarks against the community. They also allegedly threatened to take action against people of Meghalaya on behalf of Assam and claimed murders of non-tribals occur every year in Meghalaya without evidence — remarks capable of disturbing communal harmony.
Sawian sought FIR under BNS provisions related to promoting enmity, intentional insult, criminal intimidation and defamation, and urged police to verify identities, preserve electronic evidence and obtain subscriber and IP details from Meta.
He said he will furnish video recording, screenshots and links to police.
