The East Khasi Hills district unit of the Trinamool Congress has condemned the recent violence at a rally against unemployment and the remarks made by the BJP Mahila Morcha, Rakhi Mitra about the incident.
“Those with disgruntlement should not harm innocent people who have no issue with any of the protesting groups. It is very unfortunate to witness few ‘rogue elements’ who hijacked the rally which was meant to highlight the real issues of the majority,” TMC district coordinator, Dominic S Wankhar in a statement today said.
He said the caustic remark of the West Bengal BJP Secretary Mahila Morcha was done without verifying the facts and reason behind the incident.
“It is ironic that Mitra chose to keep herself mum on the alleged atrocities of minorities in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and elsewhere where her party the BJP is in government, she has dared not to raise her voice or pass remarks,” he said.
Asking the BJP to advise Mitra to stop playing its divisive politics around the country, Wankhar said Meghalaya has a responsibility towards all citizens and anyone who violates the law shall be dealt accordingly.
“Passing racist comments and painting the entire state or community is totally unacceptable and should be stopped without understanding the facts,” he added.
