Shillong, Nov 6: Renowned activist and image-maker Tarun Bhartiya’s exhibition ‘Em No Nahi’ has come home to Shillong.
First shown at the National Photography Festival 2025 at Navjivan Trust, Ahmedabad in January 2025, the exhibition is now on display at the Williamson Sangma State Museum Gallery, IGP, and will run till January-February 2027.
The exhibition documents resistance to uranium mining in the Khasi Hills, centred on the iconic struggle of Spility Lyngdoh Langrin, the Khasi elder who steadfastly refused to sell her uranium-rich land despite immense pressure.
Bhartiya’s photographs capture not only her resolve but also the larger spirit of ecological and political resistance in the region.
The exhibition was opened by her son Phrijun and great-grandson Bankitbok, who also participated in a discussion anchored by Ibankyntiew Mawrie.
