A cleaning drive for the upkeep of the surroundings in Rilang Viewpoint, Mawranglang was conducted by the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), South West Khasi Hills district on Friday.
Located 5 km from Mawkyrwat, Mawranglang is a beautiful valley on the Nongstoiñ-Mawkyrwat road meandering across the river. It is convenient picnic and angling spot.
The cleaning drive was aimed at creating an awareness on the need to imbibe the spirit of tourist etiquette by respecting and giving the best experiences to tourist who visited the viewpoint.
The programme was conducted under the Swachhta Action Plan funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) which saw the participation of Tourist Officer Marc A.N. Diengdoh, members of the Mawranglang Tourism Conservation and Development Society (MTCDS), Myntri of Mawranglang C. Kharsyiemlieh.
A brief meeting was also conducted after the cleaning drive with members of the MTCDS to discuss on how to uplift tourism in the area. The meeting was also to encourage women groups of Mawranglang to attend a training programme to be organised by the Deputy Commissioner and the Border Area Tourism Department.
