The United Democratic Party (UDP) organised a reception ceremony at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district to welcome thousands of people who have joined the party.
Most of these new members belong to different political parties, the Congress, Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), National People’s Party (NPP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) who have switched over to UDP now.
UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh who attended the function was buoyed by the strong attendance and said the party has not seen a crowd such as that of today, when the elections is seven months away.
He expressed optimism that the UDP will achieve a major success in the 2023 assembly elections and recalled the contribution of formed MLA/MDC B.B. Nongsiej towards the development of the party.
The party president also informed that the UDP has not decided names of candidates.
