Headmen of Jowai town along with the Jowai Municipal Board have informed the Meghalaya High Court that adequate systems have been put in place for the collection of waste in the town.
This was revealed in the affidavits filed separately by the Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai and Jowai Municipal Board during hearing of the matter at the division bench of Meghalaya High Court today.
During the hearing, the High Court asked the Jowai Municipal Board to look into the grievances of residents that garbage trucks were not visiting certain localities or not being available at the appointed timings.
Further, in view of the Behdeinkhlam festival later this week, the High Court directed both the municipality and the State administration to make greater effort to keep Jowai town clean and to assign additional trucks for the next week or so to ensure that the waste does not overflow on the streets or in the residences during such time.
The next hearing on the matter will be held on July 24.
