Shillong, Jul 11: Meghalaya has distributed 17, 17,917 enumeration forms of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, covering 73.11 per cent of the state’s total electorate.
The house-to-house exercise, which commenced on June 30, is aimed at updating the electoral roll by verifying voter details and ensuring that all eligible citizens are included while ineligible names are removed.
Meghalaya currently has an electorate of 23,49,645 voters. So far, 13.89 per cent of the total electorate have been digitised.
Among the districts, West Jaintia Hills recorded the highest progress, distributing enumeration forms to 93.72 per cent of its electorate. It was followed by South West Garo Hills (91.89 per cent) and North Garo Hills (87.85 per cent).
The bottom three districts, with low enumeration forms distribution are East Jaintia Hills (60.07 per cent), East Khasi Hills, which has the state’s largest voter base, distributed 4,02,220 forms, covering 68.63 per cent and West Garo Hills 68.22 per cent, as of Saturday.
According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, 3,551 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed across Meghalaya for the exercise, with each BLO assigned an average of 662 electors while the average enumeration forms distributed per BLO is at 484.
To supervise the revision process, the Election Commission has also appointed and trained 60 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 166 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and 410 BLO Supervisors.
