As part of its diamond jubilee celebration, Synod College inaugurated a two-day national seminar today on ‘His Footprints in Time: Trailblazers of Meghalaya in the Making of Modern India’.
The seminar, organised by the Centre for Historical Research (CHRSC), aims to reflect on the contributions of Meghalaya’s trailblazers to India’s modern nationhood.
Present at the inaugural session were Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Rajya Sabha MP Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi.
In his speech, the CM lauded CHRSC’s initiative, stressing the importance of recognising local narratives as foundational to India’s pluralistic identity.
The seminar features over 35 scholarly presentations across four technical sessions, highlighting the contributions of notable figures such as Dr Phervision Nongtdu, Rev Shai Rabooh Manar and Prof AK Nongkynrih. The event also paid homage to trailblazers like Capt Clifford Nongrum, Skendrowell Syiemlieh and Rev Amos C Moore.
