A 120-meter suspension bridge over the Myntdu river was inaugurated at Tuberkmaishnong in East Jaintia Hills district yesterday.
Constructed at Rs 95 lakh with funding from the MNREGS, District Rural Development Agency and the District Mineral fund, the bridge will benefit villagers, especially farmers to access the marketplace to sell or trade their crops.
Cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla attended the inaugural function as the chief guest in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, government officials, members of the dorbar and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Shylla lauded the efforts of the villagers and the district administration in proper implementation of government schemes particularly the MGNREGS. He said the bridge will further boost tourism in the area.
Baranwal said the village dorbar led by waheh shnong Miki Lyngdoh has worked hard to uplift the conditions of the residents. He said the bridge now comes as a blessing as a river becomes extremely dangerous during the rainy season.
