Transporters of stone chips from Ri-Bhoi into Assam are enjoying royalty-free travel through the forest check gate at Maikhuli, it was alleged today.
Suppliers of stone chips in the Killing area have expressed their concern at these goings-on.
This was witnessed during a spot inspection conducted on Monday night and it was found that the dumper truck transporting stone chips to Assam from one stone crusher situated in Maikhuli freely move through the forest check gate without any checking and no royalty was paid to the forest check gate.
There is only one big stone crushing operation in Maikhuli and the suppliers have nothing against it as it operates legally. However, they are concerned that the state is missing out on royalty revenue which is to be paid by the transporters.
Sources have claimed that the forest officials have been instructed not to check these trucks.
