The Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) and Department of Sports and Youth Affairs today conducted the ‘State Talent Identification 2022’ implemented by Edge 10 Group at Madan Saitsnad, Mawlangwir.
Ian Cambell, Triple Jumper and Gold Medalist of Australia who broke the World Record in the year 1980s and Alistair Tait, International Globa Coach attended the event.
MSOA working president, John F. Kharshiïing said identification of talents will be done through (scientific) digital equipment which will be monitored by outsourced professionals meant for the purpose i.e., in uncovering talented athletes through four conducted testings.
He also informed that the government has sanctioned about 400 athletes in each district. Altogether 6000 athletes will be drawn from all the districts and only the best 500 will be selected out after thorough testing. Selected candidates will be sent to different academies for training along with a scholarship, he added.
Ian Cambell expressed his gratitude towards the government for its support and cooperation by stating that it is through such tests that true talents can be found and developed to become professionals by using all resources and proper equipment which is gathered through data and found to be accurate without human error.
Around 220 children both boys and girls participated in today’s event in the presence of District Sports Officer, Damang Syngkon, staff and volunteers.
