Shillong, Sep 30: A legal awareness programme was organised at Shillong College on Tuesday by the Department of Political Science, Legal Literacy Cell and IQAC in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills and Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
Held under the theme “POCSO Act, Cyber Crime, Digital Arrest Scams, Cyber Security, Motor Vehicles Act”, the programme aimed to sensitise students on legal rights, responsibilities and emerging cyber threats.
Legal Aid Counsel D. Thangkhiew spoke on key provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012 and NALSA’s initiatives for child protection, while Legal Aid Counsel K. Diengdoh dealt with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, free legal services, NALSA helpline 15100 and the LSMS portal.
Cyber Crime Wing SI Dharamvir Kumar Singh highlighted digital arrest scams and online frauds with a case discussion, while Laitumkhrah Traffic Police SI S. Kharmawphlang spoke on the Motor Vehicles Act, road safety and legal liabilities.
