The opening ceremony of the Chief Minister’s State Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2023 was held today at the SAI Complex at NEHU, with 818 athletes set to take part in the three-day event.
Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Isawanda Laloo, was the chief guest. The meet will run until June 2.
Laloo encouraged the athletes to embody the spirit of sportsmanship and hoped that they will be able to build friendships through the competition, maintain discipline, patience and build up their endurance.
“Sports is something that teaches lessons in different aspects of life. What you learn on the track or on the field will be wonderful lessons in your life,” she added.
The meet was opened with the unfurling of the departmental flag by Laloo, in the company of Meghalaya State Olympic Association working president John F Kharshiing, Assistant Director of Sports and Youth Affairs PB War Nongbri and other officials of the department.
The athletes’ oath was also taken on behalf of all participants.
