Shillong, Aug 3: Farmers from Meghalaya joined in the release of the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN scheme funds via videolink yesterday.
The Prime Minister transferred Rs 20,500 crore directly to the bank accounts of around 9.7 crore eligible small and marginal farmers across India as part of the Rs 6,000 yearly support initiative.
In Ri-Bhoi, the KVK Ri Bhoi, under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, organised a live streaming of the fund release ceremony. Farmers from Thadnongiaw, Mawbri, Liarkhla, Liarbang and other villages, along with scientific staff and state officials, watched the programme.
Following the broadcast, KVK Ri‑Bhoi conducted a dedicated farmer–scientist interaction programme, aiming to translate the spirit of the central event into local relevance. Scientists and state officials, engaged with over 247 farmers in an open dialogue, fielding questions and sharing insights on topics such as soil health and balanced nutrient management, organic and natural farming techniques, post‑harvest value‑addition and storage, integrated farming systems and fishery methods and access to schemes like PMFBY, KCC, eNAM and PM‑KISAN itself.
At the conclusion of the programme, participating farmers received seeds and farm inputs.
The KVK West Khasi Hills also organised a live screening of the PM-KISAN event, with 182 farmers from Mairang, Mawthadraishan and Nongstoin blocks covering West Khasi Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills.
