Star Cement under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives awarded scholarships to meritorious students in Lumshnong and Brishyrnot villages.
A total of 37 students of Lumshnong, who secured 60 per cent above in their recent Class 10 and 12 board examinations, were awarded scholarships of Rs 50,000 each.
The scholarship is aim to ease the financial burden of economically weaker families and motivate students to pursue their academic aspirations.
A function was held yesterday at the Lumshnong community hall and attended by waheh shnong Monlang Ladong, along with other executive members of the village council.
Senior General Manager of the company R.V. Ramkishore who addressed the students emphasised the importance of education in nation-building.
A similar initiative was conducted earlier on June 13 in Brishyrnot where six students were felicitated with the scholarship.
CSR Manager Kingshok Kamal Borah stated that the company has been consistently supporting economically disadvantaged students from peripheral villages over the years. He highlighted that during the financial year 2024–25, the CSR department successfully extended support to 104 students from Lumshnong, enabling them to continue their higher education both within and outside Meghalaya.
