A one day awareness programme and voluntary blood donation camp was organised by the Red Ribbon Club and NSS in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) and Regional Blood Bank ,Pasteur Institute at Sohra Government College.
The programme was attended by the SDO(Civil)Sohra Civil Sub-Division Hema Nayak, P.M.Syiem MPS, Dr. B. Passah Medical Officer, Regional Blood Centre Pasteur Institute, AD Youth Affairs Meghalaya AIDS Control Society(MACS), L. Nongpyuir, AD Voluntary Blood Donation (MACS), L. Shullai, Principal and teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students.
Shullai apprised the gathering of the importance and the myths and misconceptions surrounding blood donation. She also highlighted the fact that since blood cannot be artificially manufactured so, therefore, a safe blood supply can come only from healthy individuals who would donate for altruistic reasons. Since there is an acute shortage of blood supply across the state, voluntary blood donation camps need to be held on a regular basis to tide over the crisis.
Students and some members of the teaching and non- teaching staff of the college voluntarily donated blood to help those in need through the camp held on October 11.
