The Research, Innovation and Publication Cell of Shillong College today released the fourth volume of the interdisciplinary peer reviewed journal, “Echoes from the Hills” on the theme “The society in a frantic habitat”.
The cell also paid its tribute to Late Prof. A.K. Nongkynrih for his contribution towards motivating the cell towards inculcating the spirit of research. He was a stalwart and his untimely demise is a huge loss to academics.
Principal of the college, Dr. E.Kharkongor in her address said the National Education Policy 2020 promotes research in higher education and she lauded the efforts and contributions of the earlier principals who were visionaries and pushed towards the starting of not the journal but promoting research activities amongst the teachers of Shillong College. She also urged the teachers to strive towards academic excellence.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo attended the release function as the chief guest and said that interdisciplinary was the need of the hour to bring about a broad based learning and cutting across disciplines especially towards addressing complex issues.
She said that theme was apt as it reflects the reality of our times and documentation that focuses on certain fundamental issues will help us learn from and reflect on.
Recognizing the contribution of Prof Nongkyrih in customary law and practices, she stated that his works have left an indelible mark.
It may be added that the present issue of the journal has six contributors. The next issue of the journal meanwhile invites papers on the theme “Interdisciplinary in Education”.
