School students in Jowai were sensitized on the role and functions of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) at the FCI premises in Khliehtyrshi yesterday.
During the visit, the students were sensitized on the various roles and functions of the corporation from purchase of foodgrains, maintenance of records, storage, movement and ultimately to its distribution under various schemes to the beneficiaries.
Technical Assistant Darlet Dkhar laid focus on fortified rice which, is being made available to children under the Mid Day Meal Scheme in schools to prevent malnutrition and other related ailments among them. He also urged the students to share the information with their friends and relatives to dispel the fear of plastic rice.
He also dwelt on the types of categories of rice that reaches the FCI godown.
Depot incharge, Sanjoy Kumar Das, teachers and staff of the FCI were also present during the visit.
