South Shillong MLA and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai and the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha felicitated local athlete Darisuk Kharwanlang and provided her with financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to help her prepare for the 2nd KGMF National Athlete Championship.
Kharwanlang will take part in the 35-80 age category. The mother of eight children is 48 and has been actively involved in sport and has bagged several awards over the years.
The MLA promised to take her story to the government and to secure all necessary help for her to continue participating and mounting a serious challenge to win the event.
BJP Mahila leader Arena Hynniewta also highlighted the poor state of sporting personnel in Meghalaya and urged the government to identify, recognize and support them in every possible way.
