In yet another achievement for the Ri-Bhoi police, Byrnihat police personnel managed to arrest two people today morning and seized illegal a consignment of gold biscuits worth more than Rs 1 crore.
According to information received, police, after receiving intelligence on the illegal supply of the gold, laid a trap at Byrnihat and at around 10am detected one Assam-registered Mahindra Scorpio (AS 01 EJ 6407) and during search operation police seized 20 pieces of pure gold.
Police accordingly arrested the driver of the vehicle and the other occupant, namely Abdullah Hussain and Sanborlang Khaïong, who are both residents of Ladrymbai, from where the gold was being taken to Assam.
Further investigations into the gold smuggling racket are ongoing.
