The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong held a health and wellness camp for pregnant women on May 24 at Bishnupur, Lumshatsngi, Urban Public Health Centre.
Dr Ananya Das was the chief guest and resource person. In her brief talk to all the beneficiaries present, Dr Das stressed on early confirmation of pregnancy and to attend antenatal check-ups immediately at a government or private healthcare facility. She strongly advised to give birth spacing of more than three years post-caesarean section and normal delivery so as the body can replace all nutrients lost during pregnancy.
Dr Das also outlined the various schemes provided by the central and state governments for pregnant mothers. In her experience of interactions with patients, caretakers, health workers and nurses she found that there is a lack of patient autonomy and an easy going attitude in antenatal care.
